Mathematics learning and teaching in lower secondary schools in the UK

In 2025 JMC established a working group, chaired by Professor Jenni Ingram, to explore mathematics teaching in lower secondary schools across the four UK nations. The group examined the available evidence on mathematics teaching and learning relevant to the UK context. This report summarises the findings of the working group and makes several recommendations that would positively impact students’ attitudes towards mathematics and thus improve attainment levels.
