This report appraises the latest research on factors that relate to the ‘longstanding gendered patterns’ of participation in school mathematics around the world with particular focus on the UK (including all four home nations). With an intention to understand the causes of these patterns the primary focus is research in relation to primary and secondary phases of schooling, but also from society more generally.
