Mathematical Honours 2026
JMC is delighted to congratulate several mathematicians and people involved in mathematical activities who have been honoured in the 2026 New Year’s Honours list. Firstly we are delighted that Dr Chris Pritchard, Chair, Scottish Mathematical Council; Secretary, James Clerk Maxwell Foundation and lately President of The Mathematical Association, has been awarded an OBE for services to Mathematics Education. Other notable awards include an MBE for Bobby Seagull. Despite this being for services to public libraries, most mathematicians will recognise Bobby as someone who has done much to change the public perception of mathematics.
Mathematically-related honours include Susan Lynne Raymond, Interview Manager, Office for National Statistics, awarded a Medal of the OBE for services to Statistics. John Patrick Flatley, Programme Director, Crime Statistics Production and Analysis, Home Office, awarded an MBE for Public Service. Gavin Thomas Mann, Data Lead for Retirement Services, Department for Work and Pensions, awarded an MBE For Public Service. Nigel Richard Clifford, Rector, Lincoln College, University of Oxford, awarded a CBE For services to Geography and to Geospatial Data Services. Professor Jennifer Kateman Rubin, Chief Scientific Adviser and Director General, Home Office, awarded a CBE For services to Science and Analysis.
